I want to express a heartful thanks for those of you who attended our one-day workshop, "The Simple Way to Be Truly Happy". I am blessed to be able to serve my community as an educator in physical health and spiritual development. An essential feature of the workshop was the focus on the word, "True", which I defined as, "living your life with integrity so that you can trust yourself and others". As this new year unfolds, I encourage all of you to remain open in your discovery of remembering who you really are. I support you in strengthening your confidence to develop your virtues and behaviors that authentically reveal how you choose to live your life. Let's take a moment to explore your relationship to your virtues (the highest spiritual qualities you want to embody).
Play along with me and make believe you're holding a device called a Truemometer. It's like a thermometer that you use to take your
body temperature. Hold your Truemometer with a heartful intention, take a few relaxing breathes, and ask yourself questions such as: The million-dollar question is, "Now that I know what virtues I want to emulate everyday, how do I do this in my busy life?" The simplest answer is: practice, practice, practice. Ancient wisdom cultures recommended meaningful daily rituals to keep us connected to our "higher" selves. If all that you think, say, and do resonates with your virtues then you are living harmoniously. When you are living your true life, it does not matter how busy or what situation you are in, whether it be at work, with family or by yourself. The test of being true is when you are living your life in such a way that your thoughts and behaviors continually rejuvenate your mind and body. This is a self evident test and requires responsibility for yourself. Ultimately, only you know if you are living with integrity and the accountability of that cannot be given to another. Worrying about or striving for a "truth" outside of yourself that you cannot relate to is a good sign that this particular virtue or truth may not be appropriate for you. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't stay open to the wisdom of that "truth" but if it is not in alignment with your intuition or experience, honor your innate wisdom by focusing your attention elsewhere. Make this year special by not negotiating with yourself or others about your virtues, values, beliefs and behaviors!
PS: For those of you who are not aware that I am available to work with you through personal lifestyle coaching sessions, please read below for a description of these services. Lifestyle CoachingDo you know that 80% of all illnesses are considered stress related? Although life will present us with experiences that may induce stress, it does not have to make you sick. In fact, with a little increase in awareness and applied practice, stress can be turned into an opportunity for improving physical health and spiritual well being. Using my simple self help philosophy and practice, "The RIGHT Way", I can show you how to take effective actions that resolve both the symptoms and the causes of your stress. One of the lifestyle tools I will teach you will help you identify your authentic virtues and make better life choices with clarity and confidence. You'll also know how to apply these transformative experiences into your everyday life challenges. You will know how to move closer toward realizing your full potential by developing meaningful, lifelong perspectives and actions. Each session includes techniques that remind you how to remain enlightened in living your life with greater freedom. If you want to know more about the lifestyle coaching sessions, call me @ 415-472-3292, or e-mail me @ mark@markschillinger.com for more details. Our Patients SpeakDear Dr. SchillingerThank you for being True and for showing me "The Simple Way to Be Truly Happy". I got it! C.G. - - 1-23-05 The Simple Way continues to be a blessing for me. I'm in the process of a new job hunt, so the reassurance of what we learned continues to keep me calm and confident about things. It's a reassuring sense that I've not really had before. S.K. - - 1-31-05 The R.I.G.H.T. WordsHaving deep, meaningful values and behaviors that reveal your values,
is the best way to move through the ever changing landscape of
our lives. My workshops, books and in our non-profit organization
(WIHD), I emphasize a simple expression that helps me stay focused
on my values and behaviors. I will refer to them in this section. EnRIGHTenment is enlightenment that
is real and authentic for you. Discover for your self the daily rituals
that you need to be healthy and happy. Chiropractic physicians recommend
daily motion or exercise, spiritually and physically. The founder
of chiropractic, DD Palmer, said that the number one source of illness
is spiritual/emotional stress. He affirmed the need for each person
to develop a positive mental attitude. I encourage you to do the
things you know you need to do to feel fulfilled, rejuvenated and
creative. Health QuestionsQ -- Does the fact that I am getting physically older mean that I will get more illnesses? A -- There have been countless studies on people over age 65 comparing healthy groups and sick groups. For example, one recent study showed that the healthy groups had better health habits: they smoke less, drink less alcohol, are physically active, and participate in social and recreational activities. Another study showed the healthy people also had goals and outside interests such as grandchildren, sports clubs, and volunteered their time. I once was a keynote speaker at a conference in Washington DC on Aging and Wellness. Instead of using the term, "growing older" they created the slogan, "older growing". I thought this was very clever and clearly conveyed that the context of aging was to be understood as the physical and spiritual process of maturity!
